Do the Right Thing (USA, 1989)

Dir. Spike Lee.
With Spike Lee, Samuel L. Jackson, Danny Aiello, Ossie Davis.
120 mins.

Rated R

Perhaps Spike Lee's greatest film, Do the Right Thing explores the lives of a variety of characters in a Brooklyn neighborhood over the course of a hot day whose heat helps kindle racial tensions between its African-American residents and the Italian-American owners of a local pizzeria.   Combining a strikingly fresh visual style, outstanding performances including by Spike Lee himself, and an electric soundtrack by Public Enemy the most important political rap group of the period, the film ushered in an entirely new chapter to the history of African-American cinema.

Faculty Hall, Room 208 on Thursdays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.
