A French principal (Meurisse) rules his school with an iron fist- until his wife (Clouzot) and mistress (Signoret) begin plotting to murder him. Increasingly horrifying supernatural events threaten to consume the school, as the film builds to a heart-stopping conclusion. The film’s use of suspense influenced Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and Vertigo.
