The American Legion will be starting off Veterans Day activities on Friday, November 11th at 11 a.m.
American Legion Post 73 in Murray has invited the public and anyone honoring Veterans day to the posts’ traditional service at 11 a.m. at the Bee Creek Drive Headquarters off of Fourth St. There will be a speech given by Vice Commander Bill Cowan about Ernie Pyle who was a Pulitzer Prize-winning World War 11 correspondent.
This event is set to be concluded by 2 p.m. on November 11th.
Also at 11 a.m. Friday, November 11th the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6291 will be holding a barbecue fundraiser at the South 12th St. headquarters.
In addition the Post’s Veteran VIP Room will be open all day Friday, and later that evening from 5-7 p.m. an opening reception will be held at the Murray Convention and Visitors Bureau for Rick Mjos’ exhibition called “AFVN: Stories from the R.E.M.F.”
This exhibition will stay at the Murray Convention and Visitors Bureau at 206 S 4th St. from Thursday, November 10th through Wednesday, November 30th. Between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Veterans Day parade will be held on Saturday, November 12th starting at Fifth and Poplar and ending at the Veterans Memorial at Chestnut Park.
The lineup starts at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and anyone wanting to participate in the Veterans Day parade is asked to call Rachel Brown at 270-293-0983.
