In 1940 during World War II, Japan-occupied Manchuria. During a trip to Manchuria, a local merchant and amateur filmmaker Yusaku witnesses disturbing scenes which he secretly filmed and was determined to bring
to light. His actions cause misunderstanding, jealousy and legal problems for his wife who suspects that he might be a spy for the United States. A riveting, gorgeously crafted, old-school Hitchcockian thriller which won the Silver Lion (Best Director) at the Venice Film Festival.
