Exploring the Arts
Enjoy the creative vibes.
Murray has many facets within art community. We go beyond traditional paintings on a wall. We use our hands, hearts and minds to find our creative juices, and we encourage visitors to create with us and even to take some home!
On the way to campus, drive through Future Grounds for a tasty cold brew or chai latte. Our favorite drink: try the white chocolate turtle!
In the Fine Arts Building on the Murray State University campus is the multi-level Clara M. Eagle Gallery showcasing different exhibits designed by current students and faculty. Throughout the year, new exhibits are rotated, offering a new and exciting experience each visit.
Hungry for a bite? Stop in at the Willow Bistro. This local establishment is a hidden gem in Murray. Fantastic seasonal specials are offered during lunch, ranging from soups to curry dishes. The menu reflects a middle eastern and asian fusion, providing options for vegetarian and vegan diets. Thursdays are the best days – it’s Tikka Masala day!
Enjoy a drive throughout Calloway County by following the Barn Quilt Trail. Over 66 barn quilts can be seen from the road, all with unique family stories. A paper copy of the guide can be found at the Murray Convention & Visitors Bureau, 206 S 4th St.
Visiting the Murray Art Guild is a delightful way for visitors to immerse themselves into the local arts. For more than 50 years, the guild has been focused on providing a creative outlet for local artists along with educational programming for adults and youth. Exhibits change throughout the seasons, displaying various mediums of art. The highlight of visiting the guild is the Art Market. The Art Market is place where visitors can purchase pieces of local art to take home. Small paintings, large sculptures, hand-sewn pieces and pottery are just a few examples of the beautiful work available.
While downtown, take a peek into Red Bug Yarn & Gifts, right on the court square. Vibrant colors and a cozy atmosphere greet visitors upon arrival. The lovely ladies who own this local fiber arts store are knowledgeable and helpful about the selection of yarns and accessories needed for a project. “The Locals” section is full of hand-crafted items made by local artists, made for purchase. Beautifully crafted knitwear and hand-painted cards are just a few examples found there.
