“Memorial Day Weekend in Murray, what can we do?”

Recently, we were asked by a visitor what there is to do in our area once the weather warms up and outside activities begin. In response to her request, we put a list together tailored to their family interests and wanted to share what we suggested…just in time for Memorial Day weekend coming up!

The Murray Downtown Farmers Market

May - October, every Saturday from 7am to Noon in downtown Murray

Hang with the locals and grab fresh vegetables, fruit, and browse local crafters and makers! Once the season begins, this is THE spot to hang out in the community on Saturday mornings.

The Homeplace 1850s Working Farm and Living History Museum

April - October, 7 days a week from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Step back in time at the Homeplace, where this two-generation farm features interpreters in period clothing going about doing their daily chores on a real, working farm!

Golden Pond Planetarium & Observatory
Open 7 days a week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Last show starts at 4:00 pm.

See the stars and outer space at the Planetarium, where you can view the wonders of the universe from anywhere in the world, all within the comfort of a 360 degree view theater.

Check out the Planetarium schedule, here!

Woodlands Nature Station

Open April - October, 7 days a week from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Get up close and personal with wildlife at the Nature Station, featuring guided naturalist tours exploring habitats, native plants, gardens, and their conservation efforts!

Elk & Bison Prairie
Open dawn to dusk, 7 days a week, pay $5 per automobile at front entrance.

*We like to say it’s like you are entering Jurassic Park… SUPER COOL!* This 700 acre scenic prairie is the home of Elk and Bison in their native habitat. Keep your eyes open for other wildlife in the area!

The best times to visit are 2 hours after sunrise and before sunset.

The Arboretum at Murray State

Open dawn to dusk.

The Arboretum is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of life, while remaining close to town. They have a gazebo overlooking a beautiful pond that is the best place in Murray to watch the sun set! Walk the loop, grab a bite to eat and enjoy a picnic on the grounds, or simply take in a perfect day with the kids on the playground.

Hiking Trails

If hiking is your jam, check out these trails in Land Between the Lakes. A local favorite is the Hematite Lake Trail, spanning a little over two miles!

Saturday Group Bike Ride

If you bring your bike, join the Saturday group ride with our local bike shop, Gear Up Cycles! Check out their Facebook page, as they try to post the route before the ride each week.
