Thursday, September 22, at 7:00pm in the Curris Center Ballroom, join the Department of History for the annual Easley Lecture. Dr. Melanie Beals Goan will speak on Kentucky women and the right to vote.
Dr. Goan a professor of History at the University of Kentucky. She is a specialist in twentieth century US history, with specific interests in gender, Appalachia/Kentucky, and medical history. Her first book Mary Breckinridge: The Frontier Nursing Service and Rural Health in Appalachia (University of North Carolina Press), was published in 2008. The University Press of Kentucky published her second book, A Simple Justice: Kentucky Women Fight for the Vote, in November 2020.
A graduate of Murray State, Sid Easley served as a lawyer, a circuit court judge, a community leader, and a chair of the Board of Regents. He was devoted to many aspects of education at the university, including the Department of History.
