“Looking for something fun to do on your spring break week? Come spend it with us in the 1850's! We've got a whole bunch of fun and exciting activities planned!

* *Programs subject to change based on weather**

Bucket Brigade : Welcome to the Homeplace Bucket Brigade! Grab a bucket and get ready to earn a sweet reward for filling it up with rocks or weeds! Helping us keep our gardens and fields clean is a fun and rewarding way to connect with your farming roots!

Spinning Wool : Wool was a common material in the 1850s for clothing, blankets, and other cloth materials. How do you turn the wool into thread or yarn? Join us, as we use the spinning wheel to turn wool into thread and yarn.

Blacksmithing : It’s Hammer time at the 1850’s farm! We will be demonstrating historical methods of blacksmithing on a bellows operated charcoal forge. Learn about metallurgy during the mid-1800’s and explore how a farmer would repair and replace broken and damaged tools.

Sawing Logs : Come on out to the Toolbarn, we’ve your felling axe, wedges, and crosscut saw. No sleeping on the job, we’ll show you how to saw a log like the pioneers used to do it!

Lumberjack at the Tool Barn! : You finally arrive Between the Rivers with your land grant for serving in the Revolutionary War. You’re ready to post up and start growing crops, right? Right?! WRONG! Congratulations. Your land is entirely covered by forest. Get your felling axe, wedges, and crosscut saw. It’s going to be a long job clearing enough land to plant! Don’t worry, we’ll show you how it’s done.”
